Trinity (Holy Trinity Day, Pentecost)

Cataclysmosis takes place in all cities of Cyprus on a large scale. One after another, folklore performances, games, songs and dances take place. In coastal cities, and especially in Larnaca, there are parades of ships, a large fair, competitions in marine sports (traditional regatta), festive swims with prizes for winners. In the evening, the city is immersed in the bright light of fireworks. People disperse in exhibitions and concerts.

During the Cataclysmos period, a folk dance festival is held every year. In addition, non-professional dance and music competitions are held in the cities. Often these days you can hear real Cypriot chaptis-ta!

The history of the water festival takes us back to the past. By the way, the rules of the festival remained almost the same as in pagan times, when people gathered in the temple of Aphrodite and Adonis. Then the people gathered in the temples around the lodge of Aphrodite and Adonis, and the girls sang songs of love. Then all rushed to the shore of the sea or river, where sacrifices were made and all kinds of competitions were held.
