The Virgin walked through the Cypriot land with her All-Pure feet, before her Dormition she honored Saint Lazarus with her visit, so the Cypriots have special feelings for the Most Holy Theotokos.

Cypriots say that on this day everyone becomes a little kinder than usual. Even the police, Cypriots joke, release a guilty motorist with a reduced fine on the occasion of the holiday. However, the people of the island are not abused.

Assumption is a national holiday. On the night of the feast, a procession is made with the removal of the Shroud of the Most Holy Mother of God. In the monasteries dedicated to the Virgin Mary, special solemn services are held. The faithful Cypriots are sure to visit the church in the morning.
