Agia Faneromeni Church

Phaneromenis Avenue, Larnaca, Cyprus

Description:

Agia Faneromeni Church is located in the historical center of Larnaca. An Orthodox church built on the site of a former Byzantine church, long destroyed. There's a tomb underneath. The tomb was once a cave where Christians hid from their enemies and held secret services. Over time, this place became miraculous. People believed that by praying in the cave, you can get rid of diseases. In 2006, it was restored, although in appearance it resembles the former building. The white walls are visible far beyond the temple. In 2011, this place became known far beyond Cyprus. Phoenician burials were excavated here and various items of utensils of that period were found. It is planned to open an underground museum, which will present the relics found.

The church can be reached by public transport from the airport to Larnaca Municipal Park Faneromeni.
