Description:
The Monastery of St. Mina is an active convent, one of the famous shrines of Cyprus. It is located between the villages of Wawla and Kato Dris, Larnaca County. It was born in the fifteenth century thanks to the monks of the Dominican Order. After the capture of Cyprus by the Ottoman Empire and the prohibition of Catholicism, the monastery came under the patronage of the Orthodox Church. In the same period, its reconstruction began, a female monastery was created. As in those days, now nuns grow fruits, collect honey, weave lace, do pottery, prepare sweets and drinks that can be purchased in the monastery shop. The monastery is small but very beautiful.
Named in honor of the Great Martyr Mina, a holy warrior, who is very revered by the inhabitants of the island. Icons with his image are inside the monastery. The main icon is decorated with gold, pilgrims come to her to ask for health and prosperity. Saint Mina is honored on November 11.
From an architectural point of view, the monastery is a real museum.
