Not far from the city of Paphos is the protected peninsula of Akamas. He inherited his poetic name from the son of the Trojan War hero Theseus. This picturesque corner of Cyprus has preserved the beauty of untouched nature to this day. For thousands of years, Akamas has been sparsely inhabited, and even today it remains an abandoned corner of Cyprus, which has served it well. Today it is rugged coves with cozy deserted beaches, untouched vegetation and animals that can be found only here and nowhere else in Cyprus. This gives an idea of what the island was like thousands of years ago. The territory of the peninsula is declared a national reserve. On Akamas laid one of the most popular tourist hiking trails in Europe. There is also a legend that says that St. Helena, the mother of the great king Constantine, after finding the Holy Cross of Christ returning from Jerusalem, arrived in Cyprus. She saw the island overgrown with dense, impenetrable forests. Helena ordered the burning of forests to clear the island for human habitation and kill dangerous wildlife and snakes. When the fire reached Akamas, the fire went out. This legend gave another name to the peninsula - Neopal.
On this island there is a wonderful place with a gentle sandy coast and the cleanest sea. There are no attributes of a comfortable beach. But that's exactly what Lara Beach is good at. The amazing unity with nature is emphasized by turtle masonry, carefully protected from accidental damage. Here in the season come these marine inhabitants to acquire offspring.
On the plateau of Laon there is a three-kilometer Avakas gorge with its mysterious caves. A few years ago, a labyrinth was discovered in the forest of Akamasa at a depth of 70 meters, the existence of which only a few local shepherds knew, but did not dare to go down there because of its inaccessibility. The cave has two exits, which are now permanently closed for precaution.

To get inside the cave, you need to go through one of the passages, the diameter of which is three meters, and then crawl through a thirty-meter manhole, after which a zigzag tunnel opens, a length of twenty meters, where a person can already become full height.
This is a place for those who seek solitude, inhaling the aroma of herbs and admiring the views of the area where time seems to have stopped.
