Sunny weather in Cyprus is almost guaranteed, and not only in summer. Each season has a special charm in Cyprus. Spring as an Impressionist painter will delight you with its abundance of color. Autumn is pleasant with its warm sea water and lack of crowds of tourists, and the mild winter when everything turns green is ideal for hiking and cycling. The island will be interesting for bird lovers, as hundreds of migratory birds stop here. Rare plants such as the Cyprus tulip and cyclamen will fascinate botanists, and geologists can explore rock formations derived from the oceanic crust millions of years ago. Troodos Mountains are an integral part of the natural colors of Cyprus. Unique endemic plants with an abundance of colors paint this corner all year round. Fresh mountain air, unforgettable landscapes and silence, broken only by the singing of birds - what brings the nature of the mountains of Cyprus to its visitors. Rare mountain villages have preserved the centuries-old layer of Cypriot culture. Two-thirds of the Troodos mountain system is a nature reserve, and only here in the wild you can find a rare Cyprus mouflon - a wild mountain sheep.
The villages of Cyprus are small but very cozy. They remain the guardians of ancient crafts and harbor centuries-old secrets of craftsmanship. Hospitable locals tell interesting stories from the life of the village and discover the secrets of Cypriot life in the old days.
There are 15 waterfalls in Cyprus. Their stormy streams beat with mighty force on slippery stones, and millions of splashes are scattered by water droplets. Khantara Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Cyprus, located on the river Diplos Potamos ("Double River") and despite its small height (8 meters), it is not inferior in its elegance to other waterfalls of Cyprus.
In a picturesque corner of the mountain range, at an altitude of 1140 meters above sea level, the Kykkos Monastery or the completely Stavropogial Monastery of Our Lady of Kykkotissa is located. Many thousands of people every week spare this holy abode, where the connection of epochs, times and generations is subtly felt, where one is imbued with a sense of deep reverence, and where one feels a sense of belonging to a great event or miracle.
Not far from Paphos, in the reserve of Tripilos is an amazing cedar grove. There are over 40,000 large trees protected by the state. Walking through the grove you can enjoy the magnificent pine smell, admire the lush spreading branches and even see the local inhabitants of the fauna. In the grove found housing foxes, hares, partridges.
Among the inhabitants you can find a rare breed of mouflon - a wild sheep. Environmental authorities banned the hunting of mouflons, which prevented their extinction. This animal is considered one of the symbols of Cyprus. On the island, his image is found on banknotes, coins, stamps and even the emblem of the airline.
You can see mouflons “live” in the reserve, located in the Paphos forest. The center of the reserve is a small village of Stavros Tis Psokas. More than 30 adult mouflons live here. Females and cubs keep a separate group. The males are allowed to come to them only in the autumn. Take the opportunity to see these graceful animals up close in nature. It is rare to find a mouflon in another corner of Cyprus. They are extremely shy and instantly disappear at the slightest hint of danger.
