Maheras and Iraklidis
Description:
We start our excursion in the morning and go to the village of Menico, passing the capital of the Republic of Cyprus - Nicosia. In the village of Menico there is a temple of Cyprianu and Ustiny. In this temple there are relics of saints, with the help of which the priest conducts the ceremony of removing the evil eye. Also in this temple there is a piece of the shoe of St. Spyridon.
Next we go to the village of Politico, next to which is the monastery of St. Heraklidis. This monastery was founded in the 4th century AD on the site of a cave where the first Christian of Cyprus, Saint Heraklidis, finished his earthly path. On the territory of the monastery, we can visit the cave and those who wish will lie on the bed on which the saint slept. It is believed that this ritual helps people with musculoskeletal problems.
The monastery of Maheras was built on the site of a cave in which the icon of the Mother of God, written by the Apostle Luke, was found. In this icon, the Virgin Mary is depicted without a child, since at this time Jesus was already crucified and ascended to heaven. This icon is called Maheriotissa, or Gerontissa, that is, the patroness of the elderly.
After lunch, we go to the village of Levkara, where we have been engaged in embroidery and silverware for 500 years. Here we visit an exhibition where we will see folk art, honed for centuries.
At the end of the tour we visit the monastery of St. Minas. Minas is a holy warrior, a great martyr who gave his life for the Faith. In the Cypriot tradition, this saint can be asked for material benefits.
