One of the most famous ancient sights of Cyprus is the ancient city-state of Kourion. It was founded by the Achaeans in the XII century BC, during the Greek colonization of Cyprus. By the middle of the first millennium BC. Kourion became one of the most powerful city-states in Cyprus. According to some estimates, its population exceeded 20,000 people. The city was famous for its temple of Apollo of Gilat and oracle. His highest prosperity Kourion reached in the Roman period of the history of Cyprus.

St. Nicholas Monastery – This small convent dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is located on the outskirts of Limassol. According to legend, once in Cyprus bred a huge number of snakes. The Holy Queen Helena, learning of the disaster, equipped a ship with cats here. Entering its vaults, you feel an amazing prayer atmosphere, silence and peace. A small square at the entrance to the monastery. In the center is a well, arranged in the 6th century. And on the stones with which this square is paved, you can see the prints of cat legs. Apparently, the heat melted the stone, and the cats left their autograph.

The medieval castle of Colossi is a once formidable defensive structure near Limassol, but nothing in the castle itself or near it suggests that this is the same Cyprus as we are used to. Indeed, Colossi comes from another Cyprus – Cyprus during the Crusades, Cyprus, where, thanks to the convenient location of the island, life boiled and sometimes the fate of entire states was decided.
