Paphos

Ancient Cyprus

Description:

We start the tour in the morning and go to the village of Colossi, where the eponymous fortress of the Crusaders is located. It was founded in the 13th century and served to protect Limassol. After the fall of Acre, the fortress became the headquarters of the Grand Commander of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, and from the 14th century the Knights Templar settled in the fortress.

Next, we visit the ancient city of Kourion, founded in the 13th century BC. There we will see a magnificent amphitheater located on the side of a mountain with stunning sea views. To this day, the entrances of folk dance ensembles and symphony orchestras are held here. Nearby is the Agorra, the central square of the city, where decrees of rulers were announced, and trade was conducted on holidays. We will see huge city baths - baths, houses of rich citizens with floor mosaics.

Paphos is the ancient capital of Cyprus. Here is the Archaeological Park, included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. The pearl of this park are floor mosaics, in beauty and safety the best in the whole Mediterranean. We will see the column to which the Apostle Paul was tied during the punishment for his preaching of Christianity.

Visit the monastery of St. Neophyte, carved into a rock with wall frescoes of the 12th century. The monastery was founded by the monk Neophyte, a religious and historical writer whose works are in the libraries of Edinburgh and Venice.

At the end of the tour, we will visit the birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite – the most beautiful sea coast, where the goddess came ashore from the foam of the sea.
