Church of Chrysopolitissa
Stilis Apostolou Pavlou, Kato Paphos
Description:
In Cyprus in the center of Paphos on the territory of archaeological excavations stands the Church of Panagia Chrysopolitissa (name of the icon of the Mother of God Zlatogradaya). The temple was built in the 15th century.
In front of the temple, at a low stone pillar - according to legend, the place of torture of the Apostle Paul, Orthodox pilgrims pray.
The temple became the center of religious and social rapprochement of different faiths. Despite the belonging of the church to Catholics, there are services held by Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants.
The decoration of the temple is very ascetic: bare walls without plaster, an iconostasis with a carved balcony.
In 2010, the temple was visited by the Pope, traveling “in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul.”
You can get to the archaeological park in Paphos by bus number 603, 611, 615.
