Temple of St. Paraskeva

Geroskipou, District de Paphos, Cyprus

Description:

In 2004, one of the most significant sites in Cyprus, the Temple of St. Paraskeva in Paphos, was included in the proposed list of architectural monuments of world importance.

The temple of St. Paraskeva was built in Byzantine times in honor of Saints Hilarion and Barnabas. From the old building remained only fragments of columns.

The temple, which we see on the site of a former Byzantine creation, was built in the ninth century. Much later, the building was expanded and consecrated in honor of the most revered in Cyprus Saint Paraskeva.

The attraction is located about three kilometers from Paphos: in the town of Giroskipu.

The beauty and unusualness of the building attract a huge number of visitors. Inside the temple there are frescoes dating from the eighth, ninth, twelfth and other centuries. However, to photograph them even without a flash, you need special permission.

To get to the place, you should go by car in the city of Paphos on the B6 highway to the village of Giroskipu, and then turn right towards the sign. It will be more interesting to get to the temple as part of a tourist group.
