Description:
Antiquities lovers, traveling around Cyprus, will never bypass the Ruins of the temple of Aphrodite in Paphos.
Earlier, in the distant twelfth century BC, on the site of the current ruins stood a wonderful temple in honor of the goddess Aphrodite. His size was impressive.
The goddess Aphrodite is the goddess of love. There is information that during the existence of the temple, Aphrodisias (otherwise mysteries) were held here. The meaning of Aphrodisius was in copulation of strangers in honor of Aphrodite. It was believed that this would bring prosperity, rich harvest and good luck. When Christianity came to Cyprus, the mysteries ceased.
Over time, the temple of Aphrodite was pulled into bricks for the construction of factory premises. Only ruins remain of the building. However, next to the ruins there is an exhibition where you can see archaeological finds from the site of the former temple and all of Paphos.
To reach the ruins of the once grandiose, majestic building is real if you are in the city of Paphos in Cyprus near the cliff “Petra-tu-Romiou”.
