The small resort town of Protaras is located in the southeast of Cyprus. The town is very popular with tourists.
Attraction - the Orthodox Church of St. Elias - Ayos Elias.
The church was built in the 14th century on a mountain top (115 meters) and dedicated to the prophet Elijah. To the temple leads a staircase of 170 steps. Upstairs from a small area offers a picturesque panoramic view of the surrounding area.
The interior of the church with ancient paintings is made in the Byzantine classical style.
Ayios Elias Church can be reached by bus number 101 from Ayia Napa. There is a bus stop near the foot of the mountain. Protaras can be reached on foot (a distance of about 1 km) towards the southern part of the city, opposite the beach of Sandeis.
