The most picturesque place on the Yangtze River is the Silin Gorge. Rich in mountain rapids, dangerous shallows and stormy currents, Silin Gorge invariably attracts many fans of extreme sports.
Silin Gorge stretches for 42 kilometers. It is divided into four zones, each of which has its own name - the Gorge of the Sword and the Book of Military Art (so called due to the legend that the military strategist Zhuge Liang hid his book here), the Cow's Liver Gorge (because the yellow stones of this rock resemble the liver of an animal), the Ghost Game Gorge and the Kunlin Gorge (it is also Hell's Gate with 24 rapids and many whirlpools).
One of the local attractions is the ancient Huangling Temple, which houses a statue of the Great Yu.
