Zhanshan Buddhist Temple
2 Zhiquan Road, Shinan, Qingdao, Shandong, China
Description:
Zhanshan Temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Qingdao. The temple complex consists of several impressive structures, among which the central are the stupa and the bell tower. In the central hall of the temple stands a large statue of Buddha Shakyamuni, sitting in the center surrounded by four smaller sculptures.
Among the cult buildings of Qingdao, Zhanshan Temple, built in 1945, is one of the oldest, and this is not surprising, because the city itself can be considered quite "young" - it was founded in 1897.
The Zhanshan Buddhist Temple is active and open to the public. Every year on April 8, when the Birthday of the Enlightened Buddha is solemnly celebrated, thousands of believers gather for worship in the temple.
