Kaohsiung History Museum

No. 272, Zhō ongzheng 4th Rd, Yancheng District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan

About the company:

One of the main attractions of the city of Kaohsiung is the History Museum, located next to the river of Love. It was opened in 1998, although the museum building was erected in 1938. The top of the structure is crowned with a traditional Japanese pyramid decorated with glazed tiles. On the porch of the museum there is an open terrace, which previously hosted various solemn events and ceremonies.

After World War II, the building was used by the City Hall. Since the building served as a city landmark and was very popular, it was soon decided to move the collection of the History Museum here, as well as to organize exhibition and concert halls here.

The exposition of the museum presents samples related to the history and culture of Kaohsiung. Here you can get acquainted with original documents, exhibits of applied art, smoking pipes, stamps, watches, porcelain, ceramics, literature, cartography and hunting trophies. The museum also has a rich archaeological collection.
