Shangri-la Park in Guilin

9号 Li Jiang Lu, Qi Xing Qu, Guilin (49 km from Guilin and 16 km from Yangsho)

Description:

Shangri-la Park is located in the vicinity of Guilin near the town of Yangsho. It is located in a picturesque area on the bank of the river, surrounded by hills. Just outside the entrance to Shangri-la, tourists find themselves in front of a five-storey building in the Chinese style - the Peach Blossoming Pavilion. A narrow trail leads to the idyllic Swan Lake and the Dragon River (Yulong), where you can cruise on a raft.

Near the lake rises several traditional buildings, including the Rain and Wind Bridge, built in the architectural style of the Dun people living in this area. On the way to the bridge, you can see three large totem poles – religious buildings of ethnic groups living in remote regions of southwestern China. Stone pillars with bizarre carvings are reminiscent of ancient local beliefs that are still practiced by some ethnic groups in the area.

For fans of folk art in Shangri-la often arrange performances with aboriginal dances and songs. In the park you can see girls throwing soft balls of fabric with embroidery. According to Zhuang tradition, such balls are a symbol of love and sympathy, so girls in national costumes throwing balls just want to express hospitality and joy to new guests.
