Description:

The Pokrovsky Church in Harbin is also called the Ukrainian parish. It is the only functioning Orthodox church in the city that falls under the jurisdiction of the Orthodox Church of China.

The Ukrainian parish in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God was founded in 1922 and until 1930 was located in the building of the Harbin Ukrainian House. Later, the house was withdrawn from the Ukrainian community and the parish rented a basement on Bolshoi Prospekt for some time.

In 1930, the parish was allocated a plot in the cemetery of the city, where Russian soldiers were buried. In this place on June 1, 1930, a temple was laid and built according to the project of the engineer Y.P. Zhdanov on the savings of the parish and donations of the Russian residents of Harbin. The construction cost 32,000 yen.

During the Cultural Revolution, the church was closed, and during the thaw it was restored and reopened to parishioners.

In 1986-2001, the service here was conducted by the Chinese Orthodox priest Grigory Zhu. Today, divine services are performed by visiting priests on large Orthodox holidays.
