The city of Luoyang, once one of the seven capitals of ancient China, and its surroundings is one of the richest monuments of ancient culture of the country. We invite you to get acquainted with unique shrines: on the first day we will visit the Longmen cave complex on the banks of the picturesque river, and on the second day we will explore the famous Shaolin temple, where the martial art of the same name was born, and the White Horse temple, the very first in China, which was built to store Buddhist relics.
1 DAY
Excursion to Longmen Grottoes
I'll meet you at Luoyang Railway Station and take you to your hotel. If you already live in one of the hotels of the city, I will meet you at his place.
In the afternoon, after lunch, we will go on an excursion to the Longmen grottoes, located on the banks of the Ihe River, 14 kilometers from Luoyang. This is an ancient complex of Buddhist cave temples, one of the largest in China and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will look into the caves and you will see sculptures and Buddha images, cave paintings and samples of calligraphy.
After the walk, I'll take you back to the hotel. Rest and night in Luoyang.
2 DAY
Shaolin Monastery and White Horse Temple
In the morning, after breakfast, we will meet again and go to explore the functioning Shaolin Monastery, where the famous martial art and one of the schools of Chinese Buddhism Chan was born. The building has been rebuilt many times - its architecture is very peculiar and includes elements of architectural styles of different times. You will see the gate at the entrance to the temple with many arches and drawings, inspect the halls with paintings on the walls, the bell tower and the tomb towers of monks, of whom there are more than 230.
Then you will get acquainted with another shrine - the temple of the White Horse, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the country, which is considered the birthplace of Chinese Buddhism. I will tell you an interesting legend, which is associated with the name of the temple, its past and present. After – transfer to the hotel, overnight in Luoyang.
