Macau International Airport

Description:

Macau International Airport was built in 1995 on the eastern tip of Taipa Island. It is a transportation hub between mainland China and Taiwan, as well as an intermediate stop for passenger flights between the airports of China and Southeast Asia. In 2006, the airport reached its maximum level in terms of passenger traffic - 5 million people per year.

Like Hong Kong, Macau adheres to its own immigration policy, being an independent customs territory separated from the rest of mainland China. Passengers travelling from Macau to China require mandatory immigration and customs controls because all flights are considered international.

The most unusual at the airport is the runway. It was built on an artificial embankment that goes directly into the sea. On the nearby island of Taipa, is the main terminal and air traffic control facilities.
