Its creation was an important event in the history of tourism on the island of Hainan.
The main "center of Buddhism" are special mountain and sea landscapes and deep historical culture. It combines the center of Buddhist Taoist Confuscian cultures. The Center for the Culture of the Goddess of Mercy and many others. The construction of the Buddhist Centre began in 1995. In 1998, it was ready to receive tourists. The center of Buddhist culture consists of two parks, one temple and a valley: the park “way of mercy” and “park of happiness and well-being”, “temple of the southern mountain” and “valley of longevity”. It occupies 30\1 of the planned area, the total capital investment of 2.7 billion.
The development of the South Mountain has a long history. 1,200 years ago, in China during the Tang Dynasty, a famous monk made 6 attempts to reach Japan. The first 5 times ended in failure. For the 5th time on the road he met a strong Typhoon, which led him to Hainan to the South Mountain. He stayed here for 1.5 years. In this year and a half, he and his students were engaged in the construction of the temple, read sutras, after which he made the 6th attempt to travel to Japan, which was crowned with success. At this time, another monk from Japan would be sent to China to study. Also due to the Typhoon, he came to Hainan Island, in the South Mountain, having rested and put himself in order, he finally managed to get to the city that is now called Xi'an. That is why in the history of Buddhism "Southern Mountain" is considered a place of happiness and good deeds.
Once in the center of Buddhist culture, first of all, a huge stone, 7 hieroglyphs “the center of Buddhist culture” is thrown. What is called Buddhism? One of the monks named Anan, based on the results of a 49-year study of Buddhism, summed up: do not do bad, do good, self-purification is Buddhism.

The lotus is a symbol of purity and reincarnation of the image of the goddess of mercy. The lotus has only 33 petals. They signify 33 reincarnations of the bogany for salvation and help to people.
