The Monkey Island Reserve was founded in 1965 and is the largest reserve in China for breeding monkeys, the area of this place is about 1000 hectares, and more than 2,100 monkeys live on the island. The island is located on a small peninsula 90 km from Sanya, near the village of Xincun, from which it is separated by a small strait. From the village to the reserve can be reached by funicular. This is the longest cable car over water in China, with a length of 2,138 meters. From the cabin of the funicular from a bird’s eye view you can see the strait, the open sea, as well as a unique settlement of the “sea people”. In addition to meeting wild monkeys, you can enjoy a monkey circus and a humorous show of animals.
General rules of stay in the reserve:
You can not touch and pet monkeys, you can not try to feed them, tease or scare them. This can lead to aggression from animals. It is not recommended to open bags, take out bottles and other small items in their presence, since monkeys will definitely take away items of interest to them.
