End of the World Park

Description:

Park "Edge of the World" is located on the banks of Tianya Haijiao, Tianya district. Huge smooth stones, more like inverted fishing boats abandoned here by their masters. This picturesque stone concentration is one of the most visited places in Sanya.

Legend has it that the name of the park was derived from the mythical king of monkeys Sun Wukong (one of the four main stories “journey to the west”), who visited here during his countless wanderings. The king was struck by a bizarre cluster of giant stones and gave it a name meaning the Edge of the Sky (which in itself already means the End of the World), the Corner of the Sea.

The hero of Chinese fairy tales Sun Wukong - the king of monkeys (from the classic novel "Journey to the West" by writer Wu Chengcheng) - is very popular in China and beyond, and his adventures are captured in numerous Chinese cartoons and movies, comics and books.

If you wander along the shore you can find many wonders. The stones are not as simple as they seem at first glance. Many of them have their own interesting legend, marked by a hieroglyph somewhere on the side or top. There are "Stone - broken heart", "Stone that supports the sky", "Stone - the shelter of the bachelor", "Labyrinth for lovers", "Stone of wealth". The image of the latter can be seen on the 2 yuan banknote. On two stones in the early XVIII century, the governor of the island carved hieroglyphs - Tianya Haijiao. One of the most famous is the giant stone “Edge of the World”. It reaches 10 meters in height. On this stone in 1733, an inscription was made in Chinese characters, confirming that this is where the extreme South of China is located, and that it is nothing but the Edge of the World.
