Bai Ju Lu, Jiang Zi Xian, Rikaze, Xizang, China 1.3 km S

Description:

Kumbum Chorter Temple is the hallmark of the ancient monastery complex Pelkor Chode, located in the mountains of Tibet. Kumbum is also known as the Stupa of 10,000 Buddhas, deities and bodhisattvas.

The foundation of the temple was laid in 1560. Under the roof of the multi-storey building there are 108 rooms decorated with wall images. The name "10,000 Buddhas, Deities and Bodhisattvas" is not misleading - this is the number of images that adorn the interiors of Kumbum Chorter. The temple is crowned by a statue of Buddha Maitreya, thanks to which the temple has another name - "Kumbum Jampaling".

Kumbum Chorter is an active monastery. There are four monastic colleges here. The biggest one is the Debate College. Other temple colleges are Ngagpa Dratsang, Dukhor Dratsang Rigden Losel Ling, Sang-Ngag Dechenling Datsang.
