Toling Monastery in Lhasa

Western Tibet, Zanda Village

Description:

A very beautiful monastery in the mountains of Western Tibet, whose name in Tibetan means "Soaring in the clouds". This is true - the monastery is located at an altitude of 3600 meters above sea level.

According to the manuscripts, this monastery was founded in the XI century by the Tibetan king Tsenpo Kore. Today it is the largest monastery in western Tibet. Only two temples are open to tourists. Other premises are not available. In both temples there is a magnificent wall painting depicting Buddhist deities and teachers.

From the outside, Toling looks no less picturesque: ancient prayer drums, flags, stupas, red monumental walls, stupas set on the walls in the manner of towers, bizarre low collars. Due to its correct mandaloid shape, the monastery looks no less interesting in the pictures from space.
