11 km from Nyalam, Tibet Autonomous Region, China

Description:

In Tibet, the enlightened yogi Milarepa is widely revered. He came from a wealthy Tibetan merchant family. After the death of his father, young Milarepa and his sister were entrusted with the care of his uncle. According to Tibetan custom, the uncle took all the valuables from the house to return Milarepa when he grew up. But over time, greed made his uncle and his wife forget their vows, and Milarepa’s family struggled to make ends meet. In desperation, Milarepa's mother sent him to study with the then famous Tibetan black magician. After training, Milarepa achieved spiritual liberation and became an ascetic.

Milarepa settled in a cave in the mountains, where he lived, eating only grass, making him look greenish. After hearing about Milarepa’s spiritual exploits, many people traveled to the cave to leave food at the entrance. The yogi gained great fame by writing poems, tantras. Milarepa is also said to have the ability to perform miracles. Like levitating. Not only did he rise above the ground, but he could walk and even sleep while in the air. This kind of levitation is unknown in history, which confirms the amazing abilities of the ascetic mystic.
