Gorge of the Jumping Tiger Hutiaoschya

60 km north of Lijiang City, Yunnan Province in southwest China

Description:

A canyon in the Sino-Tibet Mountains on the Yangtze River, which in that area is called the Golden Sands River. One of the deepest gorges in the world, and its length is about 15 kilometers. The gorge is especially appreciated by rafting lovers. It is also one of the most popular walking routes. Traveling along the gorge, you can enjoy luxurious landscapes: a wild river, harsh mountains, emerald forest and transparent sky.

The gorge consists of 3 sections - upper, middle and lower. The width of the gorge in the upper section is the narrowest - only 30 meters. According to legend, once a wild tiger, which chased prey, jumped the gorge in this place. This is where the name comes from. A 13-meter cliff, which rises in the gorge in the same place, became known as the “rock of the jumping tiger”.
