Red (Fire) Mountains
Description:
A mountain range in the Turfan Trench, formed about 50 million years ago. The mountains are one of the spurs of the Tien Shan, have a length of 98 kilometers and a width of 9 kilometers. The highest point is 832 meters above sea level.
The mountains got their name because of the characteristic reddish color of sandstone and the bizarre shape of the slopes. This combination under certain lighting (usually at sunset) gives the hills the appearance of a flame.
In addition, the Turfan depression, in which the mountains are located, is itself called the "land of fire". The highest recorded air temperature here is +49.6 ° C, and the land +82.3 ° C.
