Meta River
Description:
The Meta River is a river in Colombia. In the lower reaches borders with Venezuela. The length of the river is more than 1000 kilometers, the area of the basin is 112,000 square kilometers.
The Meta River begins on the eastern slopes of the Eastern Cordillera. Further it extends along the plains of Llanos-Orinoco, here the current is quite calm. Its course is winding, occasionally there are islands overgrown with reeds. The nature on the Meta coast is diverse and beautiful.
The river is navigable, its main ports are Orokue, Puerto Carreño. The Meta River rises, becomes stormy during heavy rains, floods. There are interesting excursions along the river.
