Salt Cathedral in Zipakir

Carrera 7 No. 3-63 of 206, Zipaquira, Colombia

Description:

Salt Cathedral is a Catholic church that is built in salt mines almost 200 meters underground.

At the bottom, the temple has three sections representing the birth, life and death of Jesus Christ, and at the top of the cathedral are 14 chapels that illustrate the events of Jesus’ journey on the last day of his life. At the entrance to the cathedral there is a main altar and a monumental cross above it.

The history of the cathedral began with a small sanctuary, which in the early 20th century was built by miners for prayers before the start of work. At the moment, the salt cathedral is “the first wonder of Colombia” and the most visited attraction.
