Statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe (Bogot)

part of the way is by taxi, then on foot.

Description:

Mount Guadeloupe is named after the Virgin Mary of Guadeloupe, the patroness of Bogotá, whose statue is at its very top.

It is perfectly visible from another famous peak of Montserrat, these two mountains are nearby.

Virgin Mary of Guadalupe is a Latin American version of the Virgin, the most revered shrine of Latin America. In the Catholic Church, she is revered in a non-man-made way, depicted as a dark-skinned woman, like a young Indian girl.

According to legend, the image was miraculously shown on the cloak of a Mexican peasant.

To whom the Virgin appeared to declare her will: she wanted to be built a temple on a hill.

The Virgin of Guadalupe in Bogota also stands on a hill. The height of the statue is 15 meters, the span of hands is 10 meters, is located at an altitude of 3317 meters, at the foot - the best observation deck in the city.

Right under the statue is a small functioning church.

The views of Bogotá from Guadeloupe look more impressive than those from Montserrat and the view is wider.
