Gold Museum of the Bank of the Republic
Santander Park, on the corner of Carrera 5 and 16th Street, Bogota, Colombia
About the company:
The ancient Museum of Gold in Bogota was opened in 1968, but gained real popularity only in 2004. The museum was given under the patronage of the Bank of the Republic, which completely modernized the exposition, and attracted the latest archaeological finds of the historical museum and some private collections. You can find so much gold in one place except in the main bank vaults.
All expositions are divided into several themes: “Extraction and processing of precious metal”, “People and gold”, which presents the main artifacts of the pre-Columbian era, “Cosmology and symbolism”, and a separate hall symbolizing El Dorado. Only this museum contains the largest collection of unique works of art, which miraculously escaped the fate of being melted into bars and coins. The gold museum presents unique jewelry that has almost not survived to our days. At the very beginning of the exhibition there is a huge gold shell, striking the imagination with the art of ancient masters.
