Museum of Gold Museo del Oro
About the company:
The Museum of Gold (Museo del Oro) is one of the richest museums around the world, where about 30,000 jewelry of the pre-Columbian era is stored.
The museum was opened in 1968, but it really became known only in 2004. The building of the museum is a three-storey building, which is located in the area of La Candelaria, which belongs to the historical places of the city.
All expositions are divided by theme into several groups. The main artifacts of the pre-Columbian era are presented in the People and Gold group. Information on the extraction and processing of precious metal can be obtained by considering the group of exhibits “Extraction and processing of noble metal”. There is also a separate hall, which symbolizes El Dorado.
Particularly noteworthy is the unique exhibit of the Golden Raft, which was supposedly created in 1200-1500 BC. This exhibit was discovered in 1856. The Golden Raft is a large gold platform with a leader towering above it surrounded by 12 small figures.
