Gabriel García Marquez Museum

Carrera 5, Aracataca, Colombia

About the company:

The Gabriel García Márquez Museum, opened in March 2010 in Arakataka, is the reconstructed home of the grandparents of the famous Nobel laureate.

In this house, Marquez spent his childhood, and it was here that the future great writer was imbued with the spirit of South America of the XIX century. Gabriel Marquez lived here for eight years. According to the writer, all his work is an attempt to understand what happened to him and the world around him during those years in Arakataka.

Now the house is truly recreated the atmosphere of the previous years thanks to the people who were in the building, and the childhood memories of the writer.

Marquez's personal belongings and furniture are kept here.

The opening ceremony was attended by Colombian Minister of Culture Paula Zapata.
