Tenorio Volcano National Park
Description:
National Park of Tenorio and Rio Celeste (lit. "Heavenly River" is one of the must-see places in Costa Rica. ¶
¶
Until recently, scientists could not fully explain why Rio Celeste has such an unusual turquoise coloration. Many hypotheses were put forward, including the special mineral composition of the water, or the proximity of the river to the Tenorio Volcano. ¶
¶
It is now known that the color blue is due to the physical phenomenon of dispersion. It is caused by the presence of certain minerals in the river water, reflecting sunlight, which causes such an incredible hue. This water has high acidity due to volcanic activity. With the joining of the two rivers, the pH factor decreases, causing the particles of aluminosilicate to combine and increase. It is impossible to create such an effect anywhere else in the world!
