Turrialba Volcano National Park, Cartago, Costa Rica

Description:

Turrialba is an active stratovolcano located in Costa Rica, in Cartago province. The volcano is the main attraction of the natural park named in his honor - Turrialba Volcano National Park.

Turrialba is Costa Rica's second largest volcano, it has three large craters, and the highest of its peaks reaches an altitude of 3,340 meters above sea level.

You can go down to the central crater to observe secondary volcanic activity. Despite the fact that the last time the volcano erupted in 1866, the process of lavo formation never stopped. As a result, the slopes of the volcano are densely dotted with furmarole cracks, from which hot gases and superheated steam constantly escape. Also in abundance are lakes of boiling sulfur and hot geysers.

Turrialba volcano is a very picturesque place, attracting tourists from all over the country. From the top of the mountain offers a wonderful view of the rainforests of Costa Rica, and to observe volcanic activity, the park administration has equipped convenient observation decks and laid safe hiking trails.
