Corcovado National Park
Description:
Do you want to see the tapir not in the zoo, but in the wild? Welcome to Costa Rica! One place to do this is Corcovado National Park. This stunning reserve covers an area of about 42.5 hectares.
The first thing to note about this park is the presence of at least eight different ecosystems, which in itself is a unique phenomenon. In Corcovado you can see mangrove swamps and unexplored tropical forests, sandy coast and amazing dwarf groves. The national park is home to many rare and endangered species of animals and birds, including scarlet macaws, Harpy eagles, giant anteaters, jaguars, bakers, Baird tapirs.
Corcovado in Costa Rica was awarded the National Geographic Award in the nomination “the most biologically active place on earth”! There are more than 500 species of trees in this park, including huge cotton trees (some of them reach 70 meters in height and about 3 meters in diameter). From the animal world there are 400 species of birds, 100 species of amphibians and reptiles, 140 species of mammals and more than 10 thousand different insects. The largest population of red maca is concentrated in this place!
It is also worth paying attention to the poisonous kaisaka snake and glass frog, jaguars, armadillos, ocelots, monkeys, sloths and other representatives of the local fauna. However, Corcovado is interesting not only for flora and fauna. There is a geological attraction here - the cave Salsipuedes. According to legend, the famous navigator Francis Drake left part of his treasures in it. In addition, north of Corcovado there is Drake Bay, in which in 1579 the navigator made a stop during his trip around the world. A tour of Corcovado Park in Costa Rica is amazing and full of adventure. You will see the untouched nature of the humid rainforest, you will be able to plunge into waterfalls and even swim and sunbathe on deserted beaches.
