Poas Volcano National Park
Description:
Poas volcano is one of the most active volcanoes of the Cordillera, located in Costa Rica and rising to an altitude of 2708 m.
⠀
Poas volcano is a stratovolcano, i.e. having a classical cone-shaped type with a crater at the top. Poas has three craters! In one of them there was no activity for a long time, and there was formed Lake Botos, surrounded by lush vegetation.
It is interesting that to be on the observation deck of the volcano is allowed no more than 20 minutes to avoid the risk of poisoning by volcanic gases.
⠀
Since 1828, when regular observations began, the volcano has been active 40 times, and the last major eruption occurred not so long ago, in April 2017! Occasionally, due to its volcanic activity, Poas is closed to tourists. The volcano was closed for more than a year.
