The Church of Jesus de Miramar
Description:
The Church of Jesus de Miramar is located in the Cuban capital in the prestigious district of Marmar. And while many might think it’s an ancient monument, the building is actually quite young. Construction began in 1948, and in May 1953 the temple was officially and solemnly opened. It is the second largest and most important cathedral in Havana. The architects of the project were Cosculluela and Sutter. The temple is designed in Roman-Byzantine style. Outside is a huge nave of three floors, to which small rooms joined. At the top is an octagonal dome with arched windows. The walls are painted gray-beige, and the roof is finished with red tiles. Inside the church there are about three hundred magnificent frescoes by the Spanish artist Hombrados. Fourteen panels feature 270 figures, including the Virgin Mary. This is the largest Cuban organ.
You can get to the temple by rented car along the embankment of Havana in a northwestern direction.
