Palace of Fine Arts
Cuba, Havana, Belhika Prospect, Palace of Fine Arts
Description:
The Palace of Fine Arts is considered one of the most impressive sights of the Cuban capital. It is part of the National Art Museum. Here are the works of local artists. The museum dates back to 1913, then there was a single building, not so luxurious. Over time, two buildings were opened, one of which presents the works of local talented residents, the other – foreign masters. The three-storey building of the Palace is made of glass and stone, built in the form of a rectangle. One of the walls is decorated with large sculptures of cockroaches, the railings of the balcony are intertwined with vines. The overall look is quite contrasting: modern plastic entrance doors are framed by stone arched windows. It’s like two eras collided in this project. Exhibitions of works by Cuban artists and sculptors, from the 18th century to the present, are arranged here in chronological order. There are more than 1,200 of them. Visitors will be able to learn about the development of art in Cuba, the main schools and trends, enjoy the works presented.
You can get there by car in 5-10 minutes, you can walk around the old city.
