Plaza de San Francisco Square
Plaza de San Francisco, Havana, Cuba
Description:
In the early 16th century, the area was cleared on the coast to improve the process of unloading ships and supplying them with water. In its southern part, a monastery was built, which was named in honor of St. Francis who lived here. Some time later, the square turned into a shopping center and was also named after a Catholic saint.
Nowadays Plaza de San Francisco is one of the attractions of Havana.
Despite the new buildings on the square preserved buildings built in the 19th century - the Main Customs and the Trade Exchange. In the center of the square is the fountain of the Algabra, and a little to the north - the fountain of Lviv. Since the square is located near the coast, to the east of it you will find a ferry dock. Now there are numerous celebrations, so we advise you to visit it during national holidays. The square is located in the eastern part of Havana, one block from the old town square.
