Don Quixote Monument
Description:
The character of Miguel de Cervantes Don Quixote of La Mancha, who conquered readers with his romantic nature, served as an inspiration for sculptors around the world. One of the brightest works dedicated to the noble hidalgo is a monument in the city of Varadero in Cuba.
The equestrian sculpture of Don Quixote with a spear in his hand and a lone donkey, located just behind without a rider, are turned towards the tower. The original modernist technique looks particularly picturesque at sunset, since the animalistic figures are made of strips of metal resembling hatching, and the light of the sunset gives the sculptural group the effect of sketching.
The monument is located on Avenidas Las Americas, on the top of a hill. There is a restaurant called El Meson de Don Quijote.
