Museum and Monument to the Kuwait Resistance
Kuwait, Kuwait, Al-Quran District, 208
Description:
The Kuwait Resistance Museum and Monument is the home of an uphill battle for Kuwait’s freedom between Iraqi troops and a group of brave Kuwaiti fighters. The battle took place on February 24, 1991, and lasted 10 long hours. The battlefield is now a museum and a memorial to those who died during the battle.
The group of fighters consisted of 31 participants. The participants were young people who strongly believed in Allah and were willing to sacrifice everything to uphold the pride and honor of their country. A group of Kuwaiti fighters were armed with machine guns while Iraqi troops were provided with tanks. Tank fire punched huge holes in the walls, some of them collapsed. A steady stream of endless shells and bullets burst into the house, but the 19 members of the group who were in the house did not give up, fighting to the end, despite the huge number of fighters in the Iraqi army. The battle lasted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. After 10 grueling hours, 12 young Kuwaitis died and 7 barely survived.
Now, on the site of this legendary house is a museum. Destroyed walls, stairs, windows, all this is impressive, because you can clearly see the whole picture of the battle.
There are plaques placed around the house that show where the men died or were captured. Part of the museum is located on the lower floor of the house, and shows various relics of the past battle. You can also see pictures of these heroes and their families.
