Description:

The Buddhist temple of Wat Ho Pha Keo or Ho Phakeu is located in Vientiane, Laos. It is located on Setthalat Street, southeast of Sisaket Temple. Wat Ho Pha Keo Church is one of the most ancient religious shrines of Laos that have survived to this day.

The temple was built in the XVI century, between 1556 and 1565 by order of the king of the Lao state Lan Sang Settatirat. It was built to house the statue of the Emerald Buddha from Chiang Mai, which was previously kept in Vientiane. Wat Ho Pha Keo Temple was severely damaged in the XVIII and XIX centuries. After the last, third looting of the temple helped to restore the French colonizers in the 1920s of the last century - it tells the local thank you inscription.

The Buddha stood in Wat Ho Pha Keo until the end of the XVIII century, until as a result of another war, the Thai conquerors from Siam destroyed the city along with the temple and in 1778 took the statue to Bangkok.

The temple now houses a museum where you can see objects of worship, Buddha statues and other attributes of Buddhism.
