Off the coast of the Mekong are such cities of Laos as Vientiane, Paksa, Savannakhet, Luang Prabang.

On the left bank of the Mekong, in the middle current, runs the coastline of Laos. A great contribution to the study of the river was made by French researchers Ernest Dudar de Lagre and Francois Garnier.

Rice is now grown in river spills, aided by river-silt-rich coastal soils. The Mekong River has great prospects for hydropower development. Due to the unstable level of the river, there is no through navigation, but some sections are actively used. The high content of fish contributes to the development of fisheries.
