Day of Remembrance of Latvian Freedom Fighters

Description:

Latvian Red Rifle Monument n
After the defeat of the Western Russian army, formed of Russian prisoners of war and German units remaining in Latvia, and operating under the command of the Russian officer Bermondt-Avalov, the power of the Latvian government did not extend only to Latgale.

Latvia concluded a treaty with Poland, and by joint action the armies of both states liberated Latgale from the Communists.

August 11, 1920. Soviet Russia recognized the independence of Latvia. But there were still many Latvian riflemen’s military units in Russia. After signing the contract, they were disbanded and many shooters returned home.

A memorial museum-monument to the Latvian Red Rifles was established (sculptor Honored Artist of the Latvian SSR V. Albergs, architects Dz.Driba and G.Lusis-Greenbergs). Currently, there are no plates with the inscription “Latvian Red Arrows”. Instead, it says "Latvian shooters." The word “Red” is lost somewhere.
