One of them is a wooden lake castle of ancient Latgals. The result of many years of work of the Latvian scientist, archaeologist Janis Apal. This is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of our ancient ancestors, to feel the atmosphere of their life.
And second place is the city, which rightfully occupies a bright place in the history of both Latvia and Russia.
Here more than eight hundred years ago, a castle was built for the needs of the Order of Swordbearers. And later this castle became the residence of the Master of the Livonian Order. A trading city is formed around the castle. In the German chronicle, this place is known as Wenden Castle, in the Russian - Kess. The modern name of this city is Cesis.
I will tell you about the events that took place here in the Middle Ages, about how this city could disappear, but rose from the ashes and what role it played in the formation of the young republic.
