Cesis is the most uncriminal fortress in the Baltics
Description:
Cesi medieval castle was one of the first fortifications built in Latvia by German crusaders. At that time, it was almost the most impregnable fortress in the Baltics, second only to Wieland Castle in Estonia. In this castle, the Livonian Order received ambassadors, resolved issues of war or peace, and settled internal problems. Every year I met here for the Council of Chapters. The Lord’s House of Cesis Castle Manor or New Castle, which is also a monument of national importance, was built in the middle of the 18th century, using stone wallforburgs and a defensive tower of a medieval castle. The Church of St. John is the largest medieval basilica outside Riga. It was built in the 13th century as the main cathedral of the Livonian Order. The Araishi Park Museum includes reconstructions of stone and bronze age buildings, a lake castle inhabited by the ancient Latgals of the 9th -11th centuries and the ruins of the Livonian era castle. The windmill was built in the 19th century and operated until the First World War.
