Vienibas Square

Vienibas Square (or Unity Square) is located in the center of the second largest and most important city of Latvia – Daugavpils. Nearby is the House of Unity and the Hotel "Latvia".

Unity Square has undergone many changes in its history, it has been repeatedly renamed, reconstructed and even moved to another place. At the old location of the square today is the House of Unity. Part of the area is occupied by planting blue fir trees. Every year, citizens come to the square to the main city tree, which is installed here. The square is the venue for concerts, fairs and parades.

Local rumors that underground passages to the fortress are located under the square are very popular. Despite the fact that neither during the construction of the House of Unity, nor during the excavation of the foundation, the moves were not found, the legend continues to live.
