Our path lies along the Vidzeme coast of the Gulf of Riga. More than 60 kilometers from Riga there is a picturesque place called Dunte, where several years of the life of the most truthful person on Earth, the unique Baron Munchausen, passed.
On May 32, 2005, Baron Jerome Karl Friedrich von Munchausen returned to his Duntes estate at the age of 285, where the museum was established. The building of the museum is built on the site where in the 18th century the lord's house of the Duntes estate was located. It was there from 1744 to 1750 that Baron Hieronymus Karl Friedrich von Munchausen and his wife Jacobina lived happily.
Probably not everyone remembers that Karl Friedrich Hieronymus Baron von Munchausen is not only a literary hero, but also a real historical character who lived in the XVIII century.
One of the most interesting museums of the Baltic States invites you to admire the hunting trophies of the baron, which testify to the famous exploits of the owner; a rich collection of beer mugs. On the second floor of the museum there is an exhibition of wax figures of outstanding Latvians - from the Gurzog of Courland Yekab to Raymond Pauls.:)
After a walk through the museum, I suggest breathing the freshest sea air and walking along the longest path in Europe, which goes through a dense forest and is lined with aspen boards. You will see many wooden sculptures in which the heroes of Munchausen's stories come to life - hares, boars, wolves, whales, crocodiles, a duck and a giant fly.
In 2006, the trail was named “The Most Successful New Tourist Route 2006”.
The largest wooden amusement ship in the Baltics will be won by the children. It's 30 meters long. The ship has everything you need for exciting games: 3 slides and 2 pipes for riding, bridges, swings, barrels through which you can climb through, and several guns.
It is time to return to Riga, but on the way back we will make another stop by the sea, admire one of the most beautiful dunes of Latvia – the White Dune. We will drink coffee with fresh buns and only then, tired and at the same time perfectly rested, return to the capital.
